JV Gold Update

Hello JV Gold,

Just my weekly updates as we go into our 7th game of the season against Brighton Black at SL East.

 

(1) Game Day:  Our game starts at 5:00 so please have the players at South Lyon East HS dressed and ready by 3:45.

 

(2) Monday Night Game Film Review: 6:00 - 7:00 @ Papa Ez.  This is not mandatory just an chance to get together.

 

(3) Parents Meeting:  I'd like to have a parents meeting this Tuesday at the beginning of practice.  I'd like to review a few things with everyone which include the items below.

 

(4) Games 8 & 9: The greater league has a meeting scheduled this Monday (10/13) when our last two games should be scheduled.  I hope this data will be available to give to everyone at our meeting on Tuesday.  If not I'll email you when I do have it and give out a handout to the players to take home.

 

(5) Panthers End of Year Football Tournament: This is new this year and is a chance for the SL Panther teams will play each other in a playoff style tournament.  This is not mandatory and the details are still being ironed out.  I'm trying to get some more detailed information which I will share everything at our Tuesday meeting.  What I do know is that the games would be on Tues, Thurs & Saturday and we would play as long as we win.  It may be one game only on Tuesday or we could also be in the championship game on Saturday.  These would be games with refs, clock, and normal rules.

 

This is not mandatory.  This is an extra opportunity that has been available.  There will be no more practices.  Only the games.  I will need to determine which players are interested to determine if we will field a team or not.  I know Varsity White may be opting out.  I will lay out all the details I know on Tuesday.

 

(6) Practice End Time:  Starting next week I'll be ending practice at 7:00.  Please note that this may float a little based on what we are doing.  Practice will be over by 7:15 at the latest.

 

(7) Homecoming SLEHS:  Please support the SLE HS homecoming parade next Friday (10/17).  We are one family and should support each other.

JV Gold Updates

Hello everyone,

Just a few updates I'd like to make everyone aware of:

 

(1) With the cancellation of Tuesday's practice I had mentioned to those at the parents meeting that I may have a voluntary practice on Friday.  There is NO practice on Friday.  We'll have only the 2 full practices this week.

 

(2) GAME DAY!!!!  Don't forget our game is at 5:00 this week at Hartland.  Be at the field at 3:45 ready to go.  We will start warming up at 4:00 sharp.

 

(3) Game Film Day.  If we win this weekend we will have a team film review as we had a few weeks ago.  It will be on MONDAY, Oct 6th.  Time and place TBD.  If we do not win then we will met the following Monday, Oct 13th.

 

(4) Practice End Time.  With the shorter days I will be shortening our practice schedule starting next week.  The problem is I'm trying to coordinate with this with the other teams.  I want us to be able to scrimmage the other teams and also parents of Freshman and JV players are done near the same time.  Next week I'm ending practice at 7:15.  There may be nights that if we're scrimmaging we will stay until 7:30 ... or until we can't see the ball any more ... whichever comes first.  I will probably be cutting in back to 7:00 in future weeks but for next week it is 7:15.

 

(5) The last two games of the season will not be scheduled until after our game on October 11th.  The league will review the standings of all the teams and based on the Varsity team records the last two games will be determined (no earlier that 10/13).  All I can say is that we will be playing on Saturdays (10/18 & 10/25) and it will be at either 11:00 or 5:00.  As soon as I have the information I will send it on to everyone. 

 

I must also say that I'm very pleased with our attitude this week.  Coming off a rough weekend everyone has responded extremely well.  The kids are positive and really looking forward to this weekend.

JV Gold Parents Meeting on Tuesday

Hello everyone,

Just a quick reminder that before practice on Tuesday we have another have a parents meeting scheduled.  As I indicated two weeks ago I wanted to get back to the practice of meeting with you every two weeks to improve communication.  This is not a mandatory meeting but an opportunity to meet with me and get an understanding of what's the latest news, where the focus is for the upcoming weeks and a chance to ask any questions.  

 

Some of you have requested time privately and that has gone very well.  I appreciate the opportunity to make sure that any issue or concern or question you have is answered and will continue to do so.

 

This one will be slightly different in the case that it will be separate from the players.  I intend to have a meeting with them as well but it will be following our meeting and the warm-ups.  Thank you for your time and continued support.

9-13 vs. Brighton Game Pictures

Here are the pictures from Saturday's game. The weather wasn't real conducive to getting great pictures, so I apologize in advance for the quality of some of these. A special thanks to the JV Gold Cheerleaders who braved the elements to cheer on their team!

In a given game I'll take upwards of a thousand pictures. I've tried to post pictures of all of the players but I'm sure I've missed some. Please e-mail me (Dave Kurt) and I'd be glad to post additional pictures of anyone that I've been missing.

JV Gold Update Meeting

Hello everyone. 

I wanted to send out a quick note to everyone with a request for all the parents to join us at the beginning of practice on Tuesday.  At the outset of the season I had intended to frequent "state-of-the-team" meetings to inform everyone of the team status and ensure that we had clear communication between everyone.  That has not been happening as I intended and must be corrected.

 

I'm requesting that all the parents stick around for the first 10 - 15 minutes of practice on Tuesday for a brief meeting.  The first part will include the players.  We'll review the game from Saturday, talk briefly about school and the upcoming game.  For the second part I will send the players and assistant coaches to warm-up and we'll continue with the Unit Directors, the parents and myself.  I would like the opportunity to share with you some of the changes that have happened of over the first few weeks of the season, how we manage the rotations, coaches responsibilities and volunteer responsibilities. 

 

I'm sure there will be more but this gives you a flavor of the agenda.  Please try and attend this meeting.  I will try and have these every two weeks for the remainder of the year.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!

Hello JV Gold,

This week's game is our first home game of the season versus Brighton Orange.  We will be playing at South Lyon East High School which is the same place as the Panther Jamboree.  We've had another good week of practice and we go up against a strong team but we are more than up to the task.

 

The next few statements should sound very familiar: our game is scheduled to start at 11:00.  All players should be at the field, dressed and ready to play by 9:45.  We will start warming up at 10:00 at the North end of the field. 

 

Assuming we have our game jerseys returned tonight as planned, don't forget the players can wear them to school.  I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
